Harajuku is the center of pop culture in Tokyo. Close to Shibuya and Meiji Shrine, the area is extremely popular among tourists, but also Japanese teenagers and youths. Harajuku is well known for its unique fashion called Harajuku style and for its kawaii culture, featuring many cute restaurants, cafes and stores. As expected, Harajuku also has great photo spots to take cool, fashionable photos.
I have created this guide with the best photo spots in Harajuku to save you some time and to provide you with some inspiration for your photos. All the photos below where taken in collaboration with Jay (see his work here). Without further ado, here are the best photo spots in the area:
1. FR2 Harajuku
This is definitely the craziest clothing store in Harajuku. If you are curious enough, I advise you to take a visit inside. You will be surprised of the things you will find there. The shop features some cute and pink neon lights that make a great background for your Harajuku photo. For the photo below, we used a prism to reflect the neon lights.
Location: 4-31-6 Jingumae, Shibuya City, Tokyo
2. Brahm’s Path
Brahm’s Path is a secret alley that not many people know of. Nearby the Takeshita Shopping Street, this street paved with red bricks and features a lot of plants. I usually come here to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Harajuku and to take a candid photo.
Location: 1-16, Shibuya City, Jingumae, 150-0001, Tokyo

Found this green corner in the middle of the city ?. 3. Design Festa Gallery
This is one of my favourite photo spots in Harajuku. It’s free of charge art gallery that displays interesting exhibitions all year round. It is a great spot to visit, look around and also to take great photos. From colorful doors and red stairs to paintings, this gallery will surprise you. Outside the gallery you can also find many cool graffitis that you can use as a background for your portrait shots, like the ones below.
Location: 3-20-18 Jingumae, Shibuya City, Tokyo
4. Sakura Tei
If you just can’t get enough of graffitis, Sakura Tei is the place to go to in Harajuku. Nearby the art gallery, this delicious okonomiyaki restaurant exhibits some nice urban artwork. Is is also an awesome spot for photos.
Location: 3-20-1 Jingumae, Shibuya City, Tokyo
5. Egg ‘n Things
You read that well. Even though Egg ’n Things is a restaurant in Harajuku, its cute garden and the bricked house nearby can add a unique background to your photo (this spot is also nearby the FR2 Harajuku store). Don’t you think so?
Location: 4-30-2 Jingumae, Shibuya City, Tokyo
In my opinion, these are the best photo spots in Harajuku. If you want to take some authentic shots, besides your typical Takeshita street and Cat street photos, here are the spots to go to.
